‘Gimme that old time religion’ this was the call that so many black Americans understood. A unifying way of worshiping together and soothing the aching heart in an apartheid regime that lasted long after the abolishment of slavery. The Gospel tunes and vocal harmonies that where cultivated over centuries particularly in the Southern states, permeate to this day into popular music. Most black Rock ’n’ Rollers were influenced by these songs they had heard in church. Songs that exuded excitement, Rhythmic chants and drive. Featured on this album is some of the best Rock ’n’ Roll before Rock ’n’ roll had a name!
